Abstract
If God created nature as something unified and intelligible, continuing discovery of laws of nature can be held as a designed feature of nature. This kind of design view cannot even in principle be refuted by the "god of the gaps" type of fallacy. By contrast, it grows stronger when science progresses. This was a widespread idea in British science in the 19th century.
