Like Shadows Through Leaves is a story evolving from a long-term engagement with an old social-housing estate crossed by the Malaysia-owned railway track that ran through the heart of Singapore for fifty years. Through a mix of shadow puppetry, observational video, interview fragments and the calls of the area’s 105 bird species, the film traces contested seams where more-than-human exchanges still animate the edges of urban life, in spite of the inexorable churn of a developmental state.
