Abstract
Antti Ahlava was in a group of designers, which received a honorary mention in Guggenheim Helsinki open international architecture competition, the largest architecture contest ever organised according to the number of entries. This interview by Pasquale Palumbo and Eliana Catone discusses the backgrounds of Guggenheim Helsinki project, the proposal by Ahlava et al, and more general issues, such as differences between architectural design and the design of objects, sustainability in the development of Helsinki, Nordic tradition of architecture, communication and architecture, the meaning of shape in contemporary architecture, the nature of a place modernity, architecture education and Italian architecture.
