Abstract
Mirage
The main concept of Shanghai Design University is to create “Mirage”, a new design landmark for Shanghai. Approaching the building, it appears like giant shimmering stroke in the middle of the vertical city. Shanghai Design University will have an open campus, which becomes an integral part of North Bund. New urban spaces are formed under and around Mirage, leading to the main entrance. After the public pre-qualification, four architectural design firms, David Chipperfield Architects from the UK, JKMM from Finland, Henning Larsen from Denmark, and Dashe from China, stood out and were selected to the formal solicitation stage.
