Hyperbolic Metamaterial Based on Gold Nanowires for Photonic Density of States Control Towards the Super-Planckian Thermal Emission

Abstract

Electromagnetic wave propagation in the cavity with anisotropic hyperbolic metamaterial based on gold nanowires tilted relatively to outer boundary are investigated. The transfer matrix method was adopted for arbitrary orientation of optical axis according to slab boundary using 4x4 Berreman matrix. We have estimated the effect of increasing of density of photonic states of electromagnetic field in the cavity by direct calculation of modal field and the roots of dispersion equation. The possibility of super-Planckian thermal emission is discussed.
