Abstract
Introduction of distributed power generation (DPG) units such as renewable generation (RG) units has resulted in changing the operation and planning of distribution grids. In this context, while the RG units could enable the utilities to supply the demand locally, their overpower generation could cause congestion problems in the grid. As a result, while the distribution grids are designed based on the fit-and-forget concept, the efficient planning of responsive DPGs should be employed to ensure relieving the congestion problem in the grid. Respectively, this paper aims to optimally allocate the hydrogen storage systems (HSSs) in the grid to ensure the increasing investment of RG units would not cause congestion problems in the grid. In this regard, the stochastic optimization technique as well as the condition value at risk (CVaR) method are employed to model the uncertainty of power generation by RGs while optimizing the allocation of HSSs in the grid. Based on the above discussions, the proposed optimization model is applied to the IEEE 37 bus system to analyze the impact of HSSs in relieving the congestion problem in the grid which is caused by the increasing integration of RGs.
