Abstract

The papers in this special section focus on emerging technologies and new trends in industrial informatics. Industrial informatics is a very dynamic and open-ended research area investigating the application of computing in different industrial domains. The international conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN) was established by the IEEE Industrial Electronic Society in 2003 in order to bridge the significant gap between the high expectations of practice and the state-of-the-art in industry and academic research [item 1) in the Appendix]. Its intention is to provide a dynamic platform for researchers in industry and academy to present their cutting-edge results, and by doing that, form the global industrial informatics agenda.
