Abstract
The Given, a site-specific installation of wood, plywood, fabric, pine needles, was featured in the exhibition.
The conference is accompanied by an exhibition that consists of 14 situation specific artworks by 18 artist-researchers.
The exhibition is a result of a nine-month process initiated by the Aalto University (Department of Art and Media), The University of Arts Helsinki (Academy of Fine Arts) and the Gifts/Presents/Presence team.
The collaboration, titled Gift as an Experiment, engaged creatively with both gift theory and the industrial space of Valssaamo in the Cable Factory.
The space acted as a tabula rasa where sharing of both the space of Valssaamo and the time of the conference-exhibition has been negotiated together. The aim of the process was to create an enriching multisensory environment and an event for thinking and transdisciplinary encounters.
The information on artistic outputs in the Aalto Research Portal follows the reporting guidelines of Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture. Therefore, each contribution requiring independent artistic activity is reported separately. For full details of the work and its contributors, please refer to information provided by the publisher.
