Abstract

Inspired by biosynthetic networks of enzyme catalysts, biomimetic strategies enable the acceptorless dehydrogenative conversion of C1 molecules at ambient conditions. The novel bioinspired hydrogen generation approaches promise attractive new opportunities for more efficient future energy storage systems. This Concept article, by M. H. G. Prechtl, J. Deska et al. on page 6474 ff., provides a brief personal perspective on the recent advancements on enzyme‐inspired hydrogen production from methanol or formaldehyde in aqueous media.
