From Deutscher Werkbund to Koolhaas and Helsinki

Abstract

The blunt word shopping entered the vocabulary of architects two decades decade ago with Rem Koolhaas’ research group at Harvard GSD. Amongst architects, the activity was earlier referred to more formally as consumption, commercialisation or commerce. This shift to a directness of terminology indicated a change in the metaphysics of urban architecture.
