    Abstract

To improve the energy efficiency and load carrying capacity, new light-weight solutions are required. The weight reduction of current ship structures is possible using higher strength steel and thinner plates, i.e. with thickness between 3 and 4 mm. However, the utilization of advanced solutions is limited due to lack of knowledge about the fatigue behaviour of these materials.
