Abstract

Fracture resistance of auxetic Bowtie structures made of brittle material is investigated and compared with fracture resistance of conventional Hexagonal structures. Numerous tensile experiments show that there is a sudden failure in Hexagonal structures as the tensile load increases, whereas failure in auxetic structures happens bond by bond, and as a result brittle auxetic structures survive longer under tensile test.
