Abstract
Spot robot has provided opportunity to automate data collection method on construction sites. The collected data needs to be processed in real time to get the SPOT collect more data like videos and images of the site automatically. The processing requires registration of scan data to BIM data on the go, to find out which new elements have been constructed. The existing methods of one-to-one registration between point clouds and BIM model are extensive but currently fail to fully automatise the construction progress monitoring. This is because of the complex nature of 3D models and extensive noise in point clouds collected on site. Our research aims to mitigate this problem by providing a solution based on convex hull approach. The results are promising and provide insight on understanding how to use SPOT for effective data collection on construction sites.
