Abstract

Technology has aided the development of clothing and textile design production from a myriad of perspectives. This work focuses on three approaches that challenge clothing and textile systems in terms of collections, flat patterns and looks from the perspective of sustainability. The approaches are described and discussed via exemplary design research projects that deal with digital and distributed production, generative pattern design as well as sensorial design. As the projects question mainstream practices, they invite designers and researchers to further explore less navigated paths in development and production of clothing and textiles.
