Abstract

Contribution to the Costume Design 20|10 Research exhibition:

[ATGB_performance_20230524] BioCostumes-as-documentation
Performance costumes coloured with beetroot vegetable, lemon fruit, sodium bicarbonate, body fluids, water, on European hemp fabric.

These costume garments are research data that inform my ongoing thesis “BioCostume: Experimental Costume Design with Biobased Co-Actants”. As artefacts they currently document the processes of colouring with Beta vulgaris, the beetroot vegetable, that took place before and during the May 24th 2023 performance of As Time Goes By, a contemporary dance work that also serves as a testing-site for my artistic research. More information on the tags that are attached to the costumes.

As doctoral candidate I am affiliated with the research groups Costume in Focus and Fashion/Textile Futures. My work is supported by the Research Council of Finland funded research project BioColour (Bio-based Dyes and Pigments for Colour Palette). The ATGB performance is produced by Open-ended ry and Zodiak-Centre for new dance.

The information on artistic outputs in the Aalto Research Portal follows the reporting guidelines of Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture. Therefore, each contribution requiring independent artistic activity is reported separately. For full details of the work and its contributors, please refer to information provided by the publisher.
