    Abstract

How to Write a Tropical Disease / How to Write a Manifesto is a video and installation
that departs from a study of the 19th century hygiene movement as it materialised through the presence of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in Guayaquil Ecuador between 1880-1918. The video documents the 2016 performance (consisting of the live reading of fragments of archival documents as well as texts by various poets and activists responding to the discourses on hygiene throughout the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries) and interviews with the LSHTM. Part of "Guayaquil Archipelago", curated by Sara Baranzoni, at the Museo Antropologico y de Arte Contemporaneo (MAAC) with Universidad de las Artes.
