Biobased materials for costume design

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperScientificpeer-review

Abstract

A panel on biomateriality within costume design practice introduced and led by Professor Sofia Pantouvaki (Greece/Finland) with contributions by five guest speakers: scenographer Ingvill Fossheim (Norway/Finland), textile artist Urs Dierker (Germany/Canada), costume designer Jerildy Bosch (Mexico), Axel Waehling from NIG GmbH natural colourant producer (Germany), and material scientist Prof. Orlando Rojas (Canada/Finland). The panel focuses on applications of cellulose-based materials and bio-dyes (biobased colourants) to textiles; structural colours; and biofabrication of new matter as costume. It addresses practical issues regarding implementation, durability, maintenance, costs, and generates a dialogue on new possibilities for artistic expression and transdisciplinary collaboration that these materials enable.
