Abstract

Lately a wide variety of products and services are emerging to address energy efficiency in households by providing timely information. This area is still relatively young in terms of adoption of advanced ICT still exploring what functionality and features should be part of such services. Here we propose a framework for residential energy awareness services that divides technologies in three layers: sensing, services and applications. First we review expected features of emerging products and services also presenting a service and user application we implemented to exemplify the functionality. Each layer of the BeAware framework is presented by discussing the objective, composition and current challenges.
