Abstract
Hysteresis losses occurring in Permanent Magnets can be significant when the operating point of the magnets crosses the B-axis (H = 0 line), resulting in large minor loops. In traditional Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, it has been extensively studied and observed that these losses aren't significant under regular operating conditions. The conditions responsible for these losses may exist under the regular operating conditions of a Reverse-salient Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for which, no discussion on these kinds of losses has been done before. This paper bridges the aforementioned knowledge gap by investigating the existence of such losses in a Reverse-salient Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor to understand if there is a cause for concern.
