A taxonomy of energy efficiency strategies for cubesat cluster formation networks

    Owing to the advantages in research and education, CubeSats win great popularity in universities and space industry. Based on this concept, many formation missions are proposed by distributing the traditional monolithic spacecraft functions to a cluster of small size, low cost but functional CubeSats for future space explorations. Hereby a wireless communication network is required in the cluster for collaborations. However, this network's energy is constrained by the limited area of solar cells. To solve this problem, this paper proposed an energy efficient path routing strategy in the network with Inter-Satellite links and Space-Ground Links. By selecting the master of the cluster, this paper presented optimal paths in both no-hop and multi-hop topology. Furthermore, this paper discussed the energy efficient paths with hop count constraints. Also this paper shows following research perspectives in this new space network.
