The brain mechanisms of spatial hearing are difficult to study because modern brainimaging laboratories set strict limits on the kind of spatial stimulation that can be used. This project will develop and use a new approach to the neuroscientific study of spatial hearing. Electroencephalography will be recorded in various real and virtual audiovisual spatial environments that create a compelling experience of an immersive auditory spatial scene and in which the participant is free to move. The outcomes of this project have potential applications in the development of hearing devices and virtual reality.
