Ultra Lightweight and Fracture Resistant Thin-Walled Structures through Optimization of Strain Paths

Project Details

Description

The project investigates the strain and stress paths of thin-walled structures until fracture has occurred when exposed to rigid indentation loading. This is very important when for example the safety of shipping in Arctic regions is considered. The project uses experimental and numerical research methods for both structural and materials scales. Based on the results we will develop and demonstrate an ultra-lightweight and fracture resistant structure than makes shipping considerably more safe than nowadays.
