This research tackles the basic physical processes behind large solar eruptions that may impact the Earth or other planetary systems. The solar wind emanating from the Sun escapes to interplanetary space at supersonic speeds, which means that upon impact with the Earth's or other planets' magnetic fields, a shock wave with a vastly turbulent upstream flow is formed, and is a permanent structure in the planetary environments. We focus on the nature of the turbulent sheath and the processes that govern their dynamics under the conditions of the inner solar system planets. The research results contribute to improving space weather models and worst-case scenarios.
