Project Details
Description
We propose a research project to study how the Sun affects comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which is the target of ESA's(European Space Agency) ROSETTA space mission. ROSETTA arrives at the comet in May 2014.
The research project is based on (1) measurements from five instruments on ROSETTA orbiter and lander to which FMI has contributed as a hardware and software provider (ICA, COSIMA, LAP, MIP, PP) and on (2) global computer simulations.
The research will focus to study (1) the composition and properties of comet 67P/CG and (2) how the Sun affects the comet by its solar wind and sun light.
