This project investigates and designs sophisticated solutions for the optimization of energy in a future and smarter grid. The intelligent use of a robust and secure infrastructure with state-of-the-art estimation, prediction, and detection techniques will enable more efficient energy distribution to end-users and significant reduction of peak demand. The results obtained shall facilitate minimization of overall cost of electricity to end-users and utility companies, promote more conscious use of non-renewable energy resources, and enable local generation and storage of clean energy. Furthermore, the project will also foster international scientific collaboration and exchange of ideas in order to educate and inform a new generation of scientists and engineers in the strategic area of smart energy technologies.
