Project Details


The aim of the project is to develop an autonomous RF sensor network that can be easily deployed into whatever surrounding and that can autonomously calibrate and tune itself for the particular environment. To maximize the system performance, it is designed to learn the steady-state channel statistics, tune the model parameters online, and adapt to the changing environment. We have developed a unique measurement setup including a robot that carries a "human torso" with known geometry and electrical properties, short range radios with sophisticated middleware to control transmission timings and collect measurements and software defined radio implementation of TD-LTE that allows full access to channel estimation process. Using the novel measurement models derived during the project, signal processing methods are developed for localizing and tracking the residents as well as monitoring their breathing rates e.g. for assisted living applications.
