Supporting Pro-social Change in an Era of Intergroup Tensions: A Multidisciplinary and Global Approach

Project Details

With over than 200 million people killed in the last century in acts of intergroup conflicts, one of civilization's most important challenges is finding ways to minimize conflicts. How can modern science advance us towards solving this challenge? The proposed project puts forward an innovative multidisciplinary approach including measures of brain function, hormones and attitudes in the context of groups in conflict. This approach will scientifically assess three promising interventions in the intergroup climate of Finland, after having done so in the intergroup climate of Israel-Palestine. Finally, because the three interventions proposed here are "user-friendly" and can reach a large audience, this project has the potential to promote timely societal impact, and at the same time, to provide a comprehensive scientific assessment of that impact.
