Project Details
Description
IMPRESS – Integration of efficient downstream processes for sugars and sugar alcohols integrates disruptive upstream and downstream technologies developed by partners across Europe: Aalto and Xamk (FIN), Avantium, Lenntech, and PDC (NL), Sulzer (CH), Knauer and Sphera (DE), CNRS (FRA), and Vogelbusch (AT).
The IMPRESS concept uses 2nd-generation biomass and turns these process streams into value-added products and green chemicals to replace existing fossil-based products. IMPRESS will integrate selected key technologies to refine plant-based material into multiple sustainable chemicals and materials that can replace fossil-based products. Related technologies will be substantially improved to provide a better future for us today and for generations to come. At Aalto, we aim to develop separation processes for sugar alcohols and sugars through crystallisation and conversion processes for woody biomass.
