Project Details

Description

The project 'Imagining sustainable digital futures' highlights the increasingly less visible yet ecologically adverse effects of digitalisation in society and the often unheard voices of young people. The project takes a critical, socio-technical approach with the following aims: (1) developing 'eco-digital citizenship' as an interdisciplinary concept; (2) understanding the practices of young European citizens on managing the impact of their digital technology use; and (3) experimenting with and developing methods to foster imaginings, aspirations, and actions to make better digital futures for all. The project intersects broken world thinking, terrestrial thinking and theory of infrastructuration. The project has wide societal impact: it raises awareness on the ecological footprint of digital everyday life and helps citizens to make environmentally conscious consumer choices. The concept of 'eco-digital citizenship' paves way for a new interdisciplinary research area.
