We analyze, model, and develop novel wireless satellite and terrestrial connectivity technologies for beyond-5G systems, when a wired backhaul connection is uneconomical, unfeasible, or even impossible. The studied networking technologies provide seamless global coverage by using a mixture of satellites and terrestrial communications. The project results serve to bring digital services ubiquitously available, and the results apply to all kinds of industrial Internet and smart transportation networking scenarios. Given the huge number of design parameters and possible system architectures, the key contribution of the project is to provide reliable analysis methods to speed up the performance evaluation of different systems.
