Infrastructure BIOECONOMY 2018

Project Details

Description

One of the global challenges is lack of technologies that enable the shift from the fossil-based economy to sustainable bioeconomy. This challenge is addressed in BIOECONOMY research infrastructure (RI) by combining the strengths of Aalto University and VTT to create an outstanding environment enabling the whole development chain from top science to demonstrations of new bio-based technology concepts. BIOECONOMY contains research infrastructures of process chemistry, industrial biotechnology and material science aiming to biobased products. The key competences in the processing of forest biomass make it internationally exceptional and it will serve the Finnish scientific society beyond the alliance by providing research facilities that are not currently available. It will promote Finland to become a world leader in biomass based innovations and improve competitiveness of the Finnish industry at the global markets. The aim is that BIOECONOMY RI will grow to European ESFRI by 2020.
