Project Details
Description
Computing is rapidly developing to be distributed over the internet. People already regularly store their personal emails and photographs in the servers of huge commercial companies, without any knowledge or interest where the information is physically stored. This development has become possible due to advances in computer science, physics, and engineering, which have enabled fast computers and rapid and reliable transfer of information over the globe. Scientific computing has been at the forefront of developing Grid and Cloud computing technology. In Finland, distributed scientific computing has been implemented to the benefit of hundreds of scientists at the same time in the Finnish Grid and Cloud Infrastructure. This infrastructure application describes a way to develop a second stage of this computing infrastructure in Finland, to extend it with capacity suitable for high-performance computing analysis of big data sets, to enable multidisciplinary data science research.
