Arranging small particles of different shapes into clusters, scientists and engineers create artificial materials with desired properties. For example, to create artificial magnetic materials, small metal rings are used to force the induced electric current circulate and create magnetic polarization. Or, one can shape a reflecting surface so that the reflected waves go into desired directions. In this project, we will study new exciting possibilities to engineer material properties by changing the properties of material constituents in time. This way we aim at exploitation of all possible means to optimize material properties for applications in radio engineering, optics, and acoustics.
