Despite the theoretical and experimental evidence of the electric field effect on the phase transition process, this effect has not received enough attention to control this process. This proposal suggests approaches to apply the electric field as an active method of controlling condensation and evaporation. The main focus of the project will be on how water that is under the influence of an electric field behaves during condensation and evaporation. The first general objective of this proposal is to improve understanding on the electric field effects on water condensation and evaporation. This objective will be to devise methods that employ the electric field to control condensation and evaporation. The second general objective is to identify possible hints that insects and plants use the electric field to harvest or preserve water. This project will investigate the exceptional capability of certain biological surfaces to extract water from the air.
