In the project, efficient simulations methods for problems in solid and structural mechanics are developed. The specific problems to be
considered are the contact of two elastic bodies and plate structures. For the contact problems, the unknowns to be calculated are the
contact zone and the contact stresses. The movement of the bodies with respect to each other, and the accompanied friction, will be
taken into account. The bodies will also be allowed to undergo large deflections. For plate structures the displacement and stress
distribution are the unknown to be computed. In addition, vibration and buckling problems will be studied. The work will consist of a
rigorous mathematical analysis of the algorithms together with numerical benchmark computations.
