Cyclokinetic edge turbulence in tokamak plasmas

Fusion energy is a promising future energy source. One major issue in developing a commercial fusion power plant is the degradation of plasma confinement due to turbulent transport. Turbulence and turbulent transport have been a challenging interdisciplinary problem with broad interest in science. Especially challenging is the simulation of edge turbulence in tokamaks including open field lines and fluctuation levels approaching mean values as the conventional turbulence theories are not anymore valid. In the present project we are aiming to investigate the limits of present day gyrokinetic theory for flows and fluctuation levels relevant for future fusion devices.
