CINERGY aims at exploring the possibilities of energy materials that will be made of cellulose and specific inorganic materials. Energy materials encompass a wide variety of items applied in harvesting, generating, and transporting energy, such as batteries, fuel cells, or solar cells. Many of them are prepared from rare and expensive inorganic materials. CINERGY explores the possibility to use cellulose, the main structural ingredient of plants and therefore a highly renewable raw material, in energy materials, together with inexpensive and abundant metal oxides. Such materials are new and therefore the project is strongly focused on fundamental research.
