BIOECONOMY Research Infrastructure

Project Details

Description

One of the global challenges is lack of technologies that enable the shift from the fossil-based economy to sustainable bioeconomy. This challenge is addressed in BIOECONOMY research infrastructure (RI) by combining the strengths of Aalto University and VTT to create an outstanding environment enabling the whole development chain from top science to demonstrations of new biobased technology concepts. BIOECONOMY contains research infrastructures of process chemistry, industrial biotechnology and material science aiming to biobased products. This collaboration is further boosted by the Academy of Finland Flagship FinnCERES. The systematic development of BIOECONOMY RI has targeted to open access operation that will serve the Finnish scientific society and industry. BIOECONOMY RI will promote biomass-based innovations and improve competitiveness of the Finnish industry at the global markets. The aim is that BIOECONOMY RI will grow to European ESFRI by 2021.
