Artificial designer materials

Project Details

Description

This project will study artificial designer materials created either atom-by-atom using advanced microscopic techniques or by molecular self-assembly. The target is to create materials with engineered electronic properties. In particular, we aim to realize exotic quantum materials (two-dimensional topological superconductors and organic topological insulators) that thus far do not have naturally occurring counterparts. In the final part of the project, we will fabricate real-world electronic devices using these materials. This will be crucial in enabling entirely novel applications based on quantum technologies.
