Artistic and research interests
My research is centered on processing and transmission of speech signals; I have contributed to several recent international standards such as 3GPP Enhanced Voice Services and MPEG Unified Speech and Audio Coding. The current focus is on extending the conventional speech coding systems to ad-hoc multi-device networks, where multiple-devices are simulatenously coding the speech signal with distributed source coding. Such a system can then be used as an acoustic multi-device front-end for all speech telecommunication and speech recognition tasks. In other words, the goal is to provide a unified voice user-interface for the internet of things. Key challenges include merging conventional speech coding with distributed source coding methodology, as well as optimizing privacy and security.
