Artistic and research interests

Seongtae (Seo) Kim is an Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Aalto University School of Business. Prior to joining Aalto in 2019, Seo was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Chair of Logistics Management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland. He obtained his PhD (2013-2016) in Supply Chain Management from the University of Hull’s Logistics Institute, United Kingdom. His work was fully funded by a PhD Scholarship from the Business School and received a highly commended Outstanding Research Award by Emerald/EFMD.

His research interests include supply chain sustainability, risks and disruptions, complex supply networks, and the digital transformation of supply chains, with a focus on interconnections among these areas. His work has appeared in Decision Sciences, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Supply Chain Management, among others. In recognition of his research, he has received several research awards, such as IPSERA Best Competitive Paper Award in 2025, EurOMA Chris Voss Best Paper Award in 2022, and JSCM Best Paper Award in 2020.

Seo serves as an associate editor for International Journal of Operations & Production Management and as an editorial board member for other leading journals, including Decision Sciences, Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management, and Journal of Supply Chain Management. His contributions have been recognized with multiple Outstanding Reviewer Awards from IJOPM (2024), JPSM (2023), and IJLM (2022 and 2023), as well as the Best Reviewer Award from AOM OSCM Division (2021). 

At Aalto, he teaches Global Logistics and Distribution Networks (BA Level, Period IV), Procurement and Strategic Sourcing (MSc Level, Period I), and organizes MSc Thesis Seminar in Spring. Currently, he is the principal investigator of a four-year (2023-2027) research project funded by the Academy of Finland, focusing on supply chain restructuring amid mega disruptions.
