Artistic and research interests
Riikka Mäkikoskela is a sculptor, visual arts teacher and researcher. She is currently working on two research projects. First of them is Breaking out the Silos! Engineering and Fine Art Perspectives in Circular Economy, which she does together with Nani Pajunen (Aalto CHEM and Sitra). They promote circular economy via breaking out the old ways of thinking and aim at transforming practices, for example, reducing the gap between the intent and actions of companies and consumers for sustainability. The second of Mäkikoskela's projects is her post-doctoral research Material Reciprocity. Artistic Research on Collaboration, which focuses on three-dimensional visual art, embodiment, materiality, movement and artistic thinking. By making art, she studies the experiential events where the sculptor's material body confronts the working material. The aim is to amplify the connections between material making and artistic expression.
