Personal profile

Artistic and research interests

I lead the Electric Drives Group at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. We conduct research on electric machine drives and power converters, including their modeling, analysis, control design, and optimization. Our core competence is developing advanced real-time algorithms for control, estimation, and identification. We actively collaborate with the industry.

Our research results have been published in more than 160 technical papers (about 60 in IEEE journals). The results have led to several granted patents. Many algorithms and methods developed by us have been implemented in commercial drive and converter products.

We have won several Paper Awards (2014 EPE ECCE-Europe, 2016 IEEE IAS IDC, 2016 ICEM, 2018 IEEE IAS IDC, 2019 IEEE IAS IPCC, 2021 IEEE PES ISGT-Europe) and the 2020 SEMIKRON Innovation Award. My doctoral students have also received four Best Doctoral Thesis Awards.

I have regularly served in Technical Programme Committees of major conferences in my field, including IEEE ECCE and ICEM conferences. I was the General Co-Chair of IEEE SLED 2018, Helsinki, Finland. I am an Associate Editor of IET Electric Power Applications and IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion.
