Personal profile

Artistic and research interests

My current research interests encompass using naturalistic stimuli such as movies and narratives during non-invasive neuroimaging to stimulate human social cognition and emotions in health and disorders. The neuroimaging methods that I am using include both functional magnetic resonance imaging and simultaneously recorded magnetoencephalography/electroencephalography, complemented by behavioral measures. Given the complexity of the resulting neuroimaging data, data analysis method development is advanced hand-in-hand with the cognitive neuroscience substance research. We were the first to show that movies can be used to study prefrontal cortical functions using model-free inter-subject correlation approach. Subsequently, I have been involved in development of inter-subject phase synchrony and complex network physics based analyses of brain activity during watching of emotionally engaging drama movies to study social cognition. Prior to my current research interest, I conducted both neuroscience theoretical and multimodal neuroimaging research on neural and neurotransmitter basis of human auditory cognition.
