Artistic and research interests

Anna Valtonen is currently Vice Chancellor at Konstfack, Sweden and Associate Professor in Strategic Design at Aalto University. She was Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture of Aalto University in 2014-2019, and Vice President of Art and Creative Practices at Aalto University 2015-2020. In 2016 she was nominated Full Professor in Stretegic Design at Aalto University. Valtonen was a member of the Aalto University Board in 2008–2014.  Before Aalto University she was Rector of the Umeå Institute of Design at Umeå University and professor in Industrial Design there. Valtonen has her doctorate from the former University of Art and Design Helsinki (Dept of Industrial and Strategic Design), where she has also been a researcher and a board member. Her Post Doctoral period was at ESSEC Business School Paris (Dept of Management), where she has also been visiting professor. In 1997–2009, Valtonen worked in different positions at Nokia, the last one being Head of Design Research & Foresight. She is currently the Principal Investigator in the Aalto University research project on the Nokia Design Archive.
