The NEMS group focuses on studies of micro- and nanomechanical resonators near the quantum ground state of moving objects. In principle it is possible to prepare a nearly macroscopic body into a Schrödinger’s cat type of motional quantum state where the object resides in two places the same time. We aim on measuring this exciting physics by coupling vibrating beams or graphene membranes to electrical circuits built upon superconducting junctions or resonators. We also investigate quantum phenomena in such superconducting junction qubits.
