Organisation profile

Catalysts are at the core of chemical industry and are expected to enable a sustainable biobased economy of the future. The Catalysis group, lead by Prof. Puurunen and founded in 2017, develops new types of solid heterogeneous catalysts and evaluates their performance, aiming for fundamental understanding and structure-activity relationships. The group is striving towards more Open Science.

Focus areas:

  1. Catalytic reactions & mechanisms;
  2. Supported catalysts by ALD and other methods;
  3. Microreactors;
  4. In situ / operando activity testing;
  5. Sustainable biomass-based solutions.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
