Description
Geoportti is a national research infrastructure that gives researchers, teachers and students in Finland easy access to geospatial data and geocomputing resources in high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud environments. It promotes the use of geographical data and geoinformatics methods in research and education, and catalyses location-based innovation in society.
Its services include analysis-ready geospatial data, FAIR data and code sharing, geospatial software on CSC's supercomputers and EuroHPC LUMI, cloud services, drone and extended reality labs, and training. Most services are free for academic research.
Geoportti is coordinated by the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (NLS FGI) with eight partners: Aalto University, CSC, Luke, the National Archives of Finland, Syke, and the Universities of Eastern Finland, Helsinki and Turku. It has been operational since 2019, is funded by the Research Council of Finland, and supports an estimated 160+ scientific articles each year.
