Description

2019 is the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. To celebrate the anniversary, the Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation supported a collaboration project between Aalto University and Tama Art University in the fields of textile and fashion design.

Workshop in Aalto University 3-8.6.2019

The students were asked to design a concept, which takes inspiration from the traditional textile and clothing culture but offers ideas, statements or questions for the future, aligning somehow with their chosen UN sustainable development goal.

In their group work, they were also to use a fabric provided by Tama students and could creatively combine different techniques and design methods.

During the workshops, there were lectures related to sustainable design and visits to exhibitions and designers' studios, as well as events introducing parts of Finnish culture, such as experiences of sauna and food culture.
