2019 is the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. To celebrate the anniversary, the Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation supported a collaboration project between Aalto University and Tama Art University in the fields of textile and fashion design.

Workshop in Tama Art University 30.6-6.7.2019

The workshop introduced several traditional Japanese textile techniques. There were master classes of chusen dyeing method, resist dyeing using a rice paste and natural indigo dyeing. We also visited Yamanashi textile industry area near Mt. Fuji, and saw factories working with weaving, dyeing, finishing and needle-punching.
